About

The block editor
unblocked.

WordPress has a powerful editor. It just needs fewer walls. Unblock removes them, one by one, without replacing what already works.

Why Unblock exists

After years of building WordPress products, one pattern kept coming back: the block editor has the right foundation, but it stops short. You cannot pick the HTML element. You cannot write real CSS selectors. You cannot bind data without PHP. Every time you hit a wall, you reach for a page builder, a custom block, or a workaround.

The idea came while rebuilding WP Grid Builder from the ground up for its v2. That rewrite uses the WordPress block editor as a standalone interface, outside of the traditional post editor. Working with the editor at that level revealed how it truly works under the hood, and opened a different perspective: instead of fighting the editor with hacks and workarounds, what if you could build on the native options it already offers?

Standards meet AI

From the start, the goal was to rely only on standards. No proprietary syntax, no compiled formats, no abstractions that hide what is really happening.

Open languages

HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Twig. The languages the web already speaks, that every developer already knows, and that every AI model already understands.

Natively AI-compatible

Because Unblock uses only open standards, it turned out to be compatible with AI without any adaptation. The AI layer is not a bolt-on feature. It works because the foundation is right.

A new approach

What has been impossible for years without custom development is now possible directly from the editor. A real engine that extends the block editor without ceiling.

Founder & Developer

Behind the project

Unblock is built by Loïc Blascos, a WordPress developer based in southern France near Marseille. First website in 2004 with Dreamweaver and Flash. First encounter with WordPress in 2008 while studying engineering. First premium theme in 2011, first premium plugin in 2013.

Before Unblock, Loïc created WP Grid Builder, a WordPress plugin for building and filtering content used on tens of thousands of sites. Unblock builds on that experience with a deeper focus on what the block editor can become.

He co-organizes the WordPress Meetup in Aix-en-Provence and sponsors French WordCamps.

Shaped by its users

Unblock is in active beta. Core features are stable and production-ready, but the product is still evolving. Some parts of the visual interface are being designed alongside early adopters who use it daily. Feedback from real projects on real deadlines shapes what gets built next.

Unblock blew me away: with a single prompt I got a complete page, images included, and 100% editable in the WordPress editor. Fast, powerful, it’s going to get people talking!

Unblock revolutionizes block creation in Gutenberg. No more PHP needed, just HTML, CSS, and JS. Plus, I was able to bring in all my existing custom styles.

I think Unblock is making WordPress lovable. You can build exactly what you have in mind, directly in Gutenberg. No workarounds, no page builder bloat. The workflow is perfect if you want to ship a website quickly.
